Onions and leeks

Onions and leeks are members of the allium family. They have very similar requirements in terms of nutrition even though the edible portions of the crops are quite different. They are characterised by a high requirement for both Magnesium and Sulphur.
Alliums are also sensitive to chloride based fertilisers which can effect germination and seedling growth particularly in combination with Nitrogen and / or when grown on light soil types. The form of potash in Patentkali is very low in chloride so the potash requirement can be applied up until drilling / planting or topped up as necessary by top dressing. There is increasing evidence to show that many crops show a good yield response when the potash is split between the seedbed and a top-dressing around 6-12 weeks later, particularly on sandy soils. Because of the high level of Sulphur in Patentkali (42% SO3) to secure the Sulphur requirement of the crop, Patentkali is an ideal choice of fertiliser for these crops.
