Carrots

With advances in seed breeding, storage and agronomy UK grown carrots are now available throughout the year and the homegrown crop area seems to be stable. Carrots are one of the highest yielding of all vegetables and may yield up to 100 tons fresh yield / ha (cf. potatoes average yield around 50 tons). Because carrots have a high water content they also have a high potash offtake of 3 kg K2O per ton. Therefore a 100 t/ha crop will remove 300 kg K2O. They also have a high requirement for Magnesium and a ratio of K:Mg of 2.25:1 is recommended when K and Mg indices are both at 1. The use of Patentkali secures the right ratio of K:Mg, is available for immediate uptake and he nutrients are in the sulphate form so there is no risk of chloride toxicity at early growth stages from late applications of potash.
